DAYS OF THE WEEK

Do you know where the days of the week come from?

SUNDAY: The day of the sun

MONDAY: The day of the moon

TUESDAY: The day of Tuisto, the god of war.

WEDNESDAY: The day of Woden. Woden is the god of Northern religions.

THURSDAY: The day of Thor, the god of thunder.

FRIDAY: The day of Freya, the goddess of fertility.

SATURDAY: The day of Saturn, the Roman god.

These names were made up by the Vikings who got to Great Britain in the 8th century.

* Thanks to MªCarmen (tourism class) who brought this curious information to class last week.

but i think that that can be only apply in english because, for example, in spanish the days mean other things, btw is very interesting, didn't know the meaning of all of them :)

  3. I've always liked norse mythology. I've looked all over the net for literature about it but the closest thing I found was a book explaining the ancient norse way of life. It's frustrating.

Mythology and religions never thought about men. That's the concept while people of the world sense difficult like a way of life.
Sorry this is a sad moment about this curiosity.
    Thanks

I had already realized that some days like Sunday or Monday had that meaning but it's interesting to know all of them, and that in spanish they also have meanings related to gods or planets
